PUERTO MADRYN
This city, located in the province of Chubut and founded by the Welsh in 1865, is the gateway to the Valdes Peninsula, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage natural site in 1999.
The seacoast is home to diverse species; sea lions, seals and orcas are the stars of this natural scenario. The highlights include watching penguins and, from June to December, whale watching with the arrival of the Southern Right Whale. Visit Doradillo beach to get close to the whales or take a boat at Port Piramides to go whale watching.
In the 60s, the New Bay Maritime Tourism Commission was created and artificial reefs were built at the San Jose and Nuevo Gulfs. Today, tourists from all over the world visit the place for the traditional underwater baptism.
