PUERTO IGUAZÚ
The closest town to Iguazú National Park hosting one of the New Natural Seven Wonders of the world since 2011. Also inscribed on the UNESCO List of World Natural Heritage sites.
This spectacular natural scenery originated 200.000 years ago at the tri-border area where the Iguazú and Paraná rivers come together. A geological fault along the Paraná riverbed turned the mouth of the Iguazú river into a waterfall.
This initial large fall progressively turned into two wavy arches that stretch in width for 2,700m (1.7 mi.), with the 80m-wide (263 ft.) Garganta del Diablo (“Devil’s Throat”) being the largest single fall.
Depending on the volume of water, there are 160-260 separate cascades to see. There is constant mist produced by the force of the waterfalls where sunbeams create stunning rainbows.
